Frequently asked questions

Is 8BIX free?

Yes. 8BIX is completely free: no ads, no in-app purchases and no features locked behind a paywall.

Which file formats does it support?

Any NES or Famicom ROM in the iNES or NES 2.0 format — the usual .nes files. Pick one through the system file picker and the game lands in your library right away, with no conversion or unpacking.

Where do I get games for the emulator?

The app comes with a catalogue of free homebrew games you can download in one tap. Beyond that you can import your own .nes files. 8BIX never distributes commercial ROMs, so cartridges you own have to be dumped by you.

Which devices does it run on?

Any phone or tablet running Android 7.0 or newer, budget hardware included. The NES runs at a full 60 fps even on entry-level chipsets, and you can play in both portrait and landscape.

Does it work with a gamepad?

Yes. Bluetooth and USB controllers are supported, and every NES button can be remapped to any key on your pad. Connect a second gamepad for local co-op on one screen.

Why does the Google Play version have no catalogue?

Google Play rules do not allow a built-in game catalogue, so that build ships without one — you can still import your own .nes files. The APK and the RuStore build include the full online catalogue.

Are save states kept when I close the app?

Yes. Save states and in-game battery saves stay on your device, and the emulator saves automatically when you pause or leave the game.
